Atlantic Beach Real Estate

Tracing The Genesis

The city really owes its existence to the entrepreneurial spirit of Henry Flagler who built the Mayport stop of his East Coast Railway to the north of the town. After the purchase of the most developed piece land in 1915, the development of the town scaled new heights. The incorporation of the town was complete in 1926.

This small seaside city in northeast Florida does have its own municipal government. However, the residents exercise their franchise in the Jacksonville mayoral election, and are represented in the Jacksonville city council. The US census estimates of 2005 puts the population of the city at 13,436. John Meserve, the present mayor, also manages a veteran retirement community of the town called Fleet Landing.

Miles of pristine white sandy beaches, fabulous climate all year round, and a host of outdoor activities like boating, surfing, fishing, swimming and golf make the city a much-sought after holiday destination. Hiking trails, a fishing pier, floating docks for kayaks and canoes along with campsites and pavilions make the place very unique indeed.
